There is something about the mind that all students should understand before studying and that thing is that the mind never forgets information that it has processed.
I have come to understand that when you study, you just have to know that you will not forget whatever you have studied. You have to train your brain to remember the information that it has processed. Once you do that, you will be more than able to remember each and every thing that you have studied. So the purpose of this article is to show you how you can train your mind to remember.
Read
Reading is one way in which your mind learns to take in information, day in and day out. If you are not a big reader, I suggest that you read simple things such as magazines, newspapers or blogs. The more content you read, the more your mind will get used to the act and it will improve your reading speed and increase your vocabulary (which will be helpful when doing presentations).
Write it down
If you are reading or thinking of something that seems to interest you or makes you think then you should write it down. This is another way to stimulate your mind and get you thinking.
Talk about it
This is where discussion groups, study groups and normal conversations come in – you talk about what you have read and written down. This is the last stage of the three types of learning. Through hand, eye and speech coordination – if you speak about it you will remember it and when you write it down, when you are tested you will be able to explain it better.
Create donkey bridges
This is what I used to use in my Life Science class in high school, with all the big terms and information. I took the words that sounded like Sesotho and just used that bridge to remember the word. If a word reminded me of an experience I used that as a tag – anything from a name to a place, it does not matter. If we can relate to our information, we able to remember it.
Thinking repetition
The reason that most hard working students fail is that they study for countless hours and after doing that, they think about the party that they had last week, or the one that is to come. So that means you keep on replaying what you did last week instead of what you are studying or have just studied. You may find that you remember more details about the party and not what you were reading. So the tip is to think about it and replay it in your mind, so that the repetition will manifest your learning.
Always remember that without hard work nothing can be done, so put in the time and you will reap the rewards.
