Have you ever wanted to tell someone how you would like your city’s public spaces designed? Or even felt strongly about how the public spaces created actually inhibit or restrict your preferred mode of transport?
Here is your chance! Pop in on Saturday, March 15, to see a collaborative group that are running a workshop set up in an industrial container all the way from Zeppelin University in Germany. It can be found between the College of Cape Town City Campus and the Central Library in the Design Corridor in Longmarket Streetfrom 11am. Admission is free.The installation event, called ContainerYourIdea, is devised to tap into the diverse views of the people living in our city as to their ideas on public spaces and transport. All are invited to join the discussions on how to design public space that move people with Marco Morgan (National Skate Collective), Loyiso Damoyi (Ubuntu – Khayelitsha on Bikes) and Daniel Schulte-Hillen (Humboldt Journey). CORE who will do live art during the morning and there will be live music.
The programme will run from 11am to 3pmand will be the first event of the Humboldt Journey group from Zeppelin University. The Humboldt Journey has come about when seven students from Germany brought an industrial container to Cape Town to investigate the question: How to design public space with participation? Their quest is to conduct action research and challenge the borders between science and art.In weeks to come until the end of May the container will present other themed events there in front of the College of Cape Town City Campus.
