The City of Cape Town’s Environmental Resource Management (ERM) Department is offering twenty 12-month internships in environmental and heritage management, nature conservation, environmental education, communication, landscape architecture and quality public spaces programmes.

The internship provides an exciting opportunity for new graduates to develop capacity and skills in key environmental areas at the City of Cape Town and to gain practical hands-on experience. The interns will be mentored by environmental managers within the ERM Department and skills development will be enhanced by attending capacity building and training workshops and enrichment programmes.

Applicants should:

  • Be new graduates in the field of environmental science, environmental management, nature conservation, environmental education or communication/marketing, landscape architecture or civil engineering.
  • Have good planning, administration, written and oral communication, IT and analytical skills.
  • Be able to work in a team and under pressure.
  • A valid Code B (08) driving licence is absolutely essential.

A fixed stipend will be negotiated with the successful applicants, which will include other employment fringe benefits. Applicants must be able to commence work on 1 March 2011. Preference will be given to local graduates who have not enrolled for further studies coinciding with the internship period.
