THE Universities of Venda and Limpopo are to introduce an indigenous knowledge system degree – championed by the North West University – to curb the slow development of the African economy and bolster the African renaissance.

Programme coordinator Prof Hassim Kaya said the degree was the brainchild of the New Partnership for Africa Development. “For too long our knowledge system was marginalised by the West and the question now is to build sustainable development based (also) on local people’s knowledge.”

The degree, over four years, covers natural and social science.
