  • To allow learners to register with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa in order to follow a career as a Therapeutic Aromatherapist according to ethical requirements and to work within the scope of practice.

Rationale:

The field of Aromatherapy has undergone a number of changes, both in terms of techniques and treatments over the past few years. Camelot has, through our association with the Camelot Spa group, found a gap in education and training which, until recently, has not been accommodated in the formal education field. In the past training in this field took place on an informal basis. Camelot has developed a programme incorporating the applied competencies required for the application of the therapeutic aspects of Aromatherapy required in the sophisticated Spa industry and Aromatherapy Clinics.

This programme was designed to accommodate a comprehensive training in the field of Aromatherapy as well as offer therapists the opportunity to upgrade their previous Aromatherapy training to gain a formal qualification to work within the Therapeutic environment through our RPL Policy. This programme therefore is aimed at promoting life long learning opportunities. The range of typical learners can be: School leavers, retired nurses who may want to change their career opportunities or enhance their qualifications, Health and skincare therapists, Physiotherapists, Homeopaths, Reflexologists, and Sports Massage Therapists. To accommodate these categories of learners the programme can be presented on a full-time and part-time basis.

We foresee this programme as contributing to the social and economic benefits for the country as new avenues for job creation can be developed as well as the provision of additional healthcare services to the community. This programme will thus also provide the learners with multiple skills that may open doors for further and advanced job opportunities within the Paramedical and Spa therapies industry.

Although this level of training is not required internationally, Camelot has developed this programme for those learners who seek registration through the Allied Health Professional Council.
