Introduction
The programme trains students for a career in the public sector. The programme is designed in such a way that the student is equipped with administrative and management skills relevant for a career in the private and public sectors.
Admission requirements
(Please note that these are the specific programme admission requirements – the university has its own minimum admission requirements.)
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CURRENT GRADE 12 LEARNERS:
- Admission Points Score of 27.
- Minimum NSC requirements for diploma entry must be met.
- English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (home language or first additional language) on at least level 3 (40-49%).
- NSC achievement rating of at least 2 (30-39%) for Mathematics or 3 (40-49%) for Mathematical Literacy.
- Applicants with an Admission Points Score between 22 and 26 may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS WHO MATRICULATED PRIOR TO 2008:
- Learners must score at least 24 points on the university’s SPS rating scale.
- Senior Certificate with at least five subjects.
- A pass in the language of tuition (HG=E or SG=D). Any other second language must have been taken.
- Applicants who do not meet the requirements for direct admission, and who have an SPS of 18 or higher, may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
- The subject Communication in English A is a compulsory additional requirement for the diploma.
- Prospective students will be required to write an English Proficiency Assessment Test. Unsuccessful candidates will be required to register and pass Communication in English B, and to pass Communication in English A in the second or third year of study.
The programme trains students for a career in the public sector. The programme is designed in such a way that the student is trained to be promoted to the management corps of any institution in the public sector after he or she has undergone the required practical experience.
