Mining continues to be one of the mainstays of South Africa’s economy and offers many career opportunities for people with sound technical qualifications. Mine surveying is an important branch of mining as it enables mining companies to identify untapped mineral deposits and to assess the viability of starting new mining operations. After completing this diploma, students are able to carry out key surveying functions such as sampling and valuation, shaft surveying and layout, draughting construction plans and using global positioning systems.
