Introduction

Two years of this three-year programme are spent doing full-time study at NMMU and one year in industry undergoing experiential learning.

Admission requirements

(Please note that these are the specific programme admission requirements – the university has its own minimum admission requirements.)

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CURRENT GRADE 12 LEARNERS

  • Admission Points Score of 25 (score for Life Orientation excluded).
  • Minimum NSC requirements for diploma entry must be met.
  • English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (home language or first additional language) on at least level 3 (40-49%).
  • NSC achievement rating of at least 3 (40-49%) for Mathematics or 5 (60-69%) for Mathematical Literacy.
  • Applicants with an Admission Points Score between 21 and 24 (score for Life Orientation excluded) may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
  • As a limited number of students can be admitted, admission is subject to selection based on academic merit.  The selection is undertaken by the Department of Building and Quantity Surveying and the CAAR consultant quality assured the selection process.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS WHO MATRICULATED PRIOR TO 2008

  • Senior Certificate with minimum pass mark of SG=E in Mathematics OR
  • National Certificate (N3) with at least 4 subjects, 2 of which are languages at Grade 12 level.
  • Learners must score at least 26 points on the university’s SPS rating scale. 
  • Admission is subject to departmental selection.
  • Applicants who do not meet the requirements for direct admission, and who have an SPS of 18 or higher, may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
  • Science is not a prerequisite, but will be an advantage to applicants. Woodwork and Technical Drawing will also be beneficial.

DURATION
The qualification shall extend over a minimum of three years of full-time study as prescribed.
