COURSE: DIPLOMA IN DRAMA AND THEATRE

The Diploma in Drama and Theatre Arts is market-related and outcomes-based. Diploma students are trained for a career as junior professional actor; junior theatre technician within the school environment or the community; cultural worker within the community; tutor of drama and theatre in a private studio or school.

First year subject:

• Introduction to drama and theatre as an art form


• Drama and theatre semiotics


• History and text analysis of the classic to the renaissance periods


• Theatre genres, styles and acting techniques


• Mime and movement


• Technical theatre terminology and practice


• Acting techniques


• Basic speech theory and practice


• Practical theatre programme: planning and execution

Second year subjects:

• Technical theatre: décor, props, sound and lighting


• Fantasy and children’s theatre


• Theatre make-up


• Theatre costumes


• Theatre practice


• Neo-classical and romantic theatre


• Realistic theatre

Careers: actor; director; designer; writer; technical theatre consultant.
