This one-year Certificate programme prepares students for entry-level photographic practice; covering all the necessary content for a solid grounding in photography. Students will learn a range of styles including advertising, portraiture, landscape and documentary photography. The more technical aspects of photography are also covered, such as camera equipment, computer software, reproduction methods and studio work.
During the year students will build an extensive portfolio of work under the expert guidance of the Academy’s lectures. At the same time they will also specialise in their specific filed on interest, building a competitive portfolio that showcases their talent and skillset. Exposure to the industry is a vital part of this course, with students regularly visiting studios and commercial photographers. This exposure, coupled with individualised portfolios, helps graduates find their niche in the world of photography and allows then to pursue their passions.
This course serves as a great gap year in which to develop photographic skills or as a convenient way to up skill and combine other disciplines, for example a marketing graduate adding photography as a marketable skill. Students can also further their studies in other fields of interest, combining that learning with solid technical photographic skills.
