Introduction

Students gain a sound grounding in animal and plant biology, ecology, financial management, human resource management, marketing, law and computer applications. During experiential training students work with experienced agri-business managers who act as role models and mentors in order to gain workplace experience and practical skills.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR EXTENDED QUALIFICATION

  • Minimum statutory NSC requirements for diploma entry and for the language of learning and teaching must preferably be met, but in exceptional cases candidates who only meet the minimum NSC requirements for certificate entry will be considered.
  • English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (home language or first additional language) on at least level 3 (40-49%).
  • Candidates with an APS of 22 who do not meet the requirements for direct admission to the National Diploma: Agricultural Management may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
  • Candidates must perform satisfactorily on the NMMU Access Assessment Battery.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE NATIONAL DIPLOMA FOR CURRENT GRADE 12 LEARNERS

  • Admission Points Score of 30.
  • Minimum statutory NSC requirements for diploma entry must be met.
  • English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (home language or first additional language) on at least level 3 (40-49%).
  • NSC achievement rating of at least 3 for Mathematical Literacy (40-49%) or 2 (30-39%) for Mathematics.
  • Recommended NSC subjects: Life Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Business Studies.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICANTS WHO MATRICULATED PRIOR TO 2008

  • Senior Certificate.
  • Recommended: Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Science, Biology, Accounting and Bookkeeping.

OR

  • A four-subject National Certificate (N3) with two languages at Grade 12 level.
  • Recognition of prior learning will be considered.
  • Learners must score at least 23 points on the university’s SPS rating scale.
  • Applicants who do not meet the requirements for direct admission, and who have an SPS of 18 or higher, may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.

SITE OF DELIVERY
This qualification will be offered at the George Campus of the university.

DURATION
The programme consists of two years of applied theoretical and one year of experiential training.
