Student success and democratic citizenship in the post-school education and training sector will be critically reflected upon by panelists and students at a premier event hosted by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University on Thursday, 31 July 2014, as part of Higher Education South Africa (HESA) Common Campaign Project.
The project is designed to encourage all South African higher education institutions to commonly mark 20 years of South African democracy.
Well-known journalist Siki Mgabadeli will facilitate the programme which is open to the public.
The panel members include John Pampallis, special advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimande; senior lecturer at the University of the Witwatersrand Centre for Researching Education and Labour (REAL) Stephanie Matseleng Allais and Prof Derrick Swartz, NMMU Vice-Chancellor. The big debate will include comments and questions from the audience, enlivening the debate and critical issues.
The programme starting at 17:30 for 18:00 in the auditorium at the university’s South Campus will comprise a panel discussion on the topic: ‘Acritical reflection on student success and democratic citizenship in post-school education and training?
The purpose of the debate is to gain different perspectives from our speakers and to provide the audience with a better understanding of the topic.
