The University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) has just been named the No 1 business school in South Africa by the Professional Management Review (PMR.africa). The USB is the highest rated business school with an overall score of 4.14 out of a possible 5 points in the annual national survey of accredited MBA providers.
Prof John Powell, director of the USB, says the school is delighted to have achieved the top place in this comprehensive survey of accredited South African business schools. “Our colleagues in USB-ED achieved the same accolade last year for executive education, so it’s a clean sweep for us. It is great to find that the business community at large so visibly respects the strong intellectual and academic standing of our degrees. We feel at the USB that learning how to think well, to be constructively critical and to be enquiring are key assets in business life and it is most pleasing to see our peers in business authenticate that position.”
The results of the survey were based on responses from a nationwide random sample of 500 line managers and human resources directors/managers who are all decision-makers from listed and large companies, government departments and parastatals in South Africa that employ MBA and MBL graduates.
These employers rated MBA/MBL graduates representing accredited business schools across 19 attributes displayed in the workplace. These include academic knowledge, the application of knowledge in the workplace, leadership skills, strategic management, sustainable leadership practice, international perspective and ethical business conduct.
According to PMR.africa the purpose of the awards is to celebrate excellence. “Through the awards we want to acknowledge and set a benchmark to which others can aspire,” says Johan Hattingh, CEO of PMR.africa.
This is the sixth time over the past 11 years that the USB has been rated as the top business school in South Africa through the PMR annual survey. The USB will be presented with the PMR.africa’s award at a business leaders’ breakfast in September.
