Bloemfontein, the Capital City of the Free State Province in South Africa, is centrally situated roughly in the middle of the Province, as well as in South Africa. The “City of Roses”, as it had become known locally, is placed with more pivotal importance than any other city in the country. The Judicial Capital, sixth largest city in South Africa, lies on the main road, rail and air links between north and south, east and west. Shopping in picturesque, neat surroundings where it is cool, parking space is ample and convenient, and friendly staff provides efficient service, is a pleasant experience.
- City Hall: A stately sandstone building designed by Sir Gordon Leith.
- Anglican Cathedral: Major Henry Warden, founder of Bloemfontein, gave Bloemfontein a spiritual heart when he laid the foundation of the Victorian building in 1850.
- Maphikela House: Maphikela was one of the founder members and member of the executive committee of the ANC in Bloemfontein in 1935.
- Civic Centre: The modern glass building, headquarters of the Municipality, was inaugurated in 1992, boast modern conference facilities.
- CR Swart Building: The “Pride of the Free State” housing the Provincial Administration and a 26th-floor revolving restaurant.
- First Raadsaal: This modest building of dung floors and a thatched roof was erected by Major Warden in 1949. Housed at one time almost all of the city’s original civil institutions.
- Jubileum Building: Constructed in the 1920s as a venue for reading and refreshments for young people.
- Old Government Building: A fine piece of old Cape Dutch architecture, housing the Nasional Afrikaans Museum.
- Bloemfontein Orchid House: One of the most modern nurseries of a kind in the Southern Hemisphere.
- Loch Logan Waterfront: Is an innovative waterfront-style project offering entertainment, restaurants pubs and shopping for all ages.
- Oliewenhuis Art Gallery: This stately neo-Cape Dutch house was built to accommodate visiting Governor-General and Head of State. It became a gallery in 1985.
- Rugby Museum: One of the largest private collections of its kind in the world.
- Naval Hill: An extremely popular hill providing excellent view of the town and the Franklin Game Reserve form part of the hill.
