This programme equips students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills which are essential for a successful career in sport management. The programme also provides the opportunity for students to fully realise their potential in the one sport in which they chose to specialise.
Students are required to belong and compete for a club of their specialist sport, approved by the Human Movement Science & Sport Management Department, and to involve themselves in the administration of the club.
Apart from the academic programme, students are expected to attend special courses and excursions and involve themselves in projects that are arranged for their benefit. These activities are not necessarily accommodated in the academic fee structure.

English Language Requirement
New applicants admitted to study in the National Diploma: Sport Management will be required to write an English Proficiency Assessment Test. The successful applicants will be allowed to register for their prescribed Language A subject. The unsuccessful applicants will be required to register for and pass Communication in English B, during the first year of study. The prescribed Language A will then be completed in the second or third year of study.
Experiential Learning
A student may not register for experiential learning before he/she has passed all the prescribed modules.
Placing of Students
Although the NMMU is not legally responsible for the placing of students in suitable employment, it has the moral responsibility to ensure that students are accepted on appropriate co-operative programmes.
Readmission Rules
In order to be re-admitted to the National Diploma Sport Management programme, a student needs to have accumulated a minimum number of credits at the end of each year of study, as indicated in the table below. If that has not been achieved, the student may either be re-admitted subject to certain conditions or be refused re-admission. In the event of refusal a student may lodge an appeal in terms of the prescribed procedure.
DURATION
The qualification shall extend over at least three years of full-time study

- Admission Points Score of 30.
- Minimum statutory NSC requirements for diploma entry must be met.
- English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (Home Language or First Additional Language) on at least level 3 (40-49%).
- NSC achievement rating of at least 2 (30-39%) for Mathematics or 3 (40-49%) for Mathematical Literacy is preferred.
