The Certificate in Practical Business Administration (CPBA) is a a one-year Further Education and Training (FET) course that is accredited at National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 4 by the Services Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA). The aim of this course is to prepare students for the formal workplace and, for this reason, the programme includes a significant practical component.

The CPBA programme, which is only offered at TSiBA Eden currently, also includes subjects such as English and Maths, Environmental Studies, Life Skills and IT. All student businesses are also provided with skills training in Project Management, Marketing and Sales, Bookkeeping, Leadership and Team Management, Production, Financial Planning and Strategy, Labour Law and Human Resources.

Students who pass the course with the required competency NQF level 4 can apply for entry into the NQF Level 5 Higher Certificate in Business Administration (HCBA). To apply for admission to TSiBA Eden, please visit Apply to Study.

Over the course of their studies, students are prepared for both the formal workplace and for the possibility of starting their own businesses. The focus is on good business skills and knowledge, best business practice (including environmental consciousness), ethics and values, leadership and ultimately, on preparing the students to think and act as agents of positive social change. Students who complete the CPBA successfully can:

1. apply to continue studying further at TSiBA Eden on the HCBA programme.
2. use their CPBA certificate to help them find meaningful employment.
3. use the skills they have learnt to help them start their own business.

This programme is taught in the classroom and in five practical Business Departments on campus: Reception, Kitchen, Garden, Cleaning and TSiBank. The academic year is divided into four ten week Business Cycles so that students spend one week in the classroom studying the fundamentals of Business Management and the theoretical principles underlying business, followed by one week in a Business Department over these ten weeks. During the year students have a chance of spending time in four different Business Departments where they learn time management, business ethics, how to work in a team, run meetings and apply the Business Administration theory learnt in the classroom.
