Students are introduced to the following fields of expertise related to the construction industry: construction methods and materials; costs of various construction elements and components; the influence of the economy on the industry; rights and obligations of different parties; the use of computers and the principles of entrepreneurial success; personal and professional ethics; and general professional practice and management.
Take note: The BSc (Construction Economics) is followed by the BSc Honours (Quantity Surveying) in order to develop the additional expertise needed to qualify as a quantity surveyor.

Obtaining the qualification
The qualification shall be obtained by completing the modules prescribed by Senate.
Awarding the qualification cum laude
Unless Senate decides otherwise, the qualification shall be awarded cum laude if students comply with the requirements as stipulated in the General Prospectus. The following modules shall be regarded as the major modules:

Building Economics 301
Quantity Surveying 301
Career fields
DURATION
The qualification shall extend over at least three years of full-time study. Consult the front of the Prospectus for the maximum period of study.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR CURRENT GRADE 12 LEARNERS
- Admission Points Score of 36.
- Minimum NSC requirements for degree entry must be met.
- English, Afrikaans or isiXhosa (home language or first additional language) on at least level 3 (40-49%).
- NSC achievement rating of at least 4 (50-59%) for Mathematics.
- Applicants with an Admission Points Score between 26 and 35 may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
- Admission is subject to departmental selection.

- Matriculation exemption and passes in Mathematics (minimum SG=C or HG=E).
- Candidates may be required to pass an entrance examination.
- Learners must score at least 34 points on the university’s SPS rating scale.
- Admission is subject to departmental selection.
- Applicants who do not meet the requirements for direct admission, and who have an SPS of 18 or higher, may be referred to write the Access Assessment Battery before a decision is made on whether or not to admit the applicant to the course.
