GET A JOB THIS YOUTH-MONTH WITH THE NYDA
The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is using Youth Month to help unemployed youngsters find jobs.
“We decided not to sit and cry about the past, but to fight the issues that affect the youth nowadays, which is poverty and unemployment,” said Jabulile Shongwe, NYDA acting branch manager in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.
“We are giving these young people a chance to send their CVs to us so we can see what skills they have and then apply on their behalf because most of them don’t have access to the internet or can’t afford to send their CVs by mail,” said Shongwe.
The NYDA collected CVs during an imbizo in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Monday before going to Mbombela.
Imbizos will be held in all provinces before ending in Port Elizabeth on 16 June, Youth Day.
“We’ll be going to each provincial capital. We want the young people to have more information about the NYDA and we’ll also help prepare them for jobs, especially those who have skills but can’t find jobs or places to do internships,” said Shongwe.
He said many youths were also given advice on how to apply for bursaries to study further.
One of the attendees in Mbombela, Nompumelelo Nkosi, said the NYDA was helping him apply to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation for a bursary.
“I went to university but I didn’t finish because I come from a cash strapped family. So now they are going to apply for a bursary for me. I believe the Department of International Relations will give me one,” said Shongwe.
